about

Hi Folks

Here is our tribute to the master of confusion, Captain Beefheart, and the various amazing musicians who contributed to the creation of Magic Band music.

This was a labour of love for us, very hard work but very satisfying. We all pay tribute here to the musical madness that we grew up with. We all learned from it and took inspiration from the musicians who played it. We wanted to make our own contribution to the legacy. If you click directly on any of the song titles above, you'll see the names of the players on each of our tracks.

All of this was made by Toronto musicians, including the artwork.
It was a gradual project that came to an eventual end -- everyone who took part is busy with other musical projects and families etc. It took patience for all of us, but LOOK. It was worth it.

We hope you love our versions of Beefheart music. We finished the whole thing with a tutorial on how to play a Beefheart song yourselves.

We spent out of our pockets to make everything here, out of love for the music. If you'd like to help us out, please do download a copy of the album. Or you can make a donation of a few dollars if you'd like to see more work like this from us.

Thanks!

BPT

about

Beefheart Project Toronto Toronto, Ontario

BPT started in early 2014 to map out some of the Magic Band's most complex tracks (and commonly overlooked simpler tunes) to make their own recordings of them. Put together by a coterie of musicians from various parts of the Toronto music scene. Doing versions of songs from every Beefheart LP (1967-1982) and era, including the early A&M 45's and the Zappa collaborations of the mid 70s. ... more
